Let us settle down comfortably. This lovely bench stands next to the hearth. Its quaint, old-fashioned shape and fresh scenery baffle. Between past and present, between the garden and the living-room, only one thing's for sure: it's tea time.

This afternoon our lover is coming over for tea. We'll offer him this colorful confit de macarons and smile so hard it won't leave a doubt in his mind we prepared it ourselves. The black tea, flavored with rose petals, will taste so good there's no use for a love philter.

Only an hour left waiting for him - just enough time to doll up. First step: a honey bath from Laura Mercier's Gourmande bodycare collection, then a quick homemade beauty treatment with her almond and coconut milk line. We'll smell better than the tea cakes.

Breakfast, Lunch, Tea, The Many Little Meals of Rose Bakery, Phaidon, 192 pp., 100 color illustrations, $29,95
Rose Bakery, 46, rue des Martyrs Paris 9°, +33 1 42 82 12 80

Rose and Jean-Claude Carrarini used to work in fashion. They'd travel all over the world. The birds escorted them everywhere. Until they noticed that, just like the birds, what was on their plate for lunch interested them far more than the cuts and fabrics they had discussed all morning. Thus they launched an organic gourmet shop in London, a pionneering venture as early as 1988. And then flew off again before settling down, under the advice of the birds, in the Parisian rue des Martyrs, where they opened the very delicious store known as Rose Bakery in 2002. Rose let Phaidon in on one hundred of her best recipes, for extraordinary little meals from dawn till dusk - and after that still.

A very refined couch end table, for spreading one's feet while sipping a cup of white tea, or laying a Wedgwood teapot. You could also take it away with you, install it in the reading room, and lose yourself in the pages of Lewis Carroll before a steaming Oolong. Or in the park, where the sparrows will come to peck our biscuits.
Let's have tea on the grass, in the shade of a great elm. The early summer sun draws glories that fall through the wide leaves, it speckles the lawn with light. On the pond, the flowers of a gardenia drift between the busy ducks. In the background, white jasmine sparkles among the golden trees; close by, honeysuckle vines shake their fragrant bells.
Joyeux Anniversaire cushion 40 €, china rabbit 25 €
Home Autour du Monde, 8, rue des Francs Bourgeois Paris 3°, +33 1 42 77 06 08
Thanks to the indications found in a chapter of Lewis Carroll which we alone know about, we were able to locate a hidden entrance leading to Wonderland. Here is what we found upon arriving on site. We suspect the existence of a secret bond between these two objects. Should we place the rabbit on the cushion at a specific spot? Or the opposite?
Bottle of absinth 35 €, liquor-filled chocolate 3 €, extra dark chocolate bar 3 €, Leone
Lafayette Gourmet 97, rue de Provence Paris 9° +33 1 48 74 15 35
www.pastiglieleone.it
For an exquisite decadent tea, as the sun sets and the shadows deepen. Leone celebrates its 150th birthday, and that of Baudelaire's Fleurs du Mal, with a special coffret, only available in Italy. It includes an edition of the infamous collection, with traditional handmade binding. But the package's real attraction is a bottle of absinth, distilled the Belle Époque way. It comes with the appropriate perforated spoon to perfect the effect. The brand hasn't changed its recipe in any way since production started in 1874. The liquor is still strong, very strong... at 72°.
Now where on Earth did I put that damned laudanum?
