News are pouring right and left at Sessùn's.  For a start, a new store has popped open in Paris, the second one in the rue de Charonne, and a soft space full of light and authenticity. The brand also launched the Playlist line last season; just 12 items, mainly silk dresses and tuxedo pants that delineate evening silhouettes with a distinctly rock'n'roll edge. A musical inspiration that Sessùn wears on its sleeve. Designer Emma François specializes in such clever cross-overs: after a sweet Songs Collection, she has completed a new multidisciplinary project, an exhibition around the theme of the bird and its feathers that will migrate in the spring towards Marseilles and Aix-en-Provence. This airy show features the fluttering plates of Norwegian ceramic artist Astrid Sleire, delicious wooden jewels by Australian-born Naomi Murrell, as well as pictures and other lovely items in limited editions.

Suzon & Lena
 

Marine Miel, the young designer hiding behind Suzon & Lena, has got talent and much more: she also glows with laudable ambition, and bravely asserts the peculiarity of her work. She founded her brand at the sweet age of 24, and opened her own store just two years later, in the heart of the Marais district in Paris. Suzon & Lena offers collections whose esthetics draws on Belle Epoque garment codes, with "faux-culs, tailles de guêpe et belles épaules", blended with 50's pin-up spirit, 80's vintage and a not-overly-Parisian touch. One may object to the way she introduces her pretty collection inside a look-book bordering on Charcot's hysterics, or to her outright refusal to comply with the passing fads that do and un-do the fashion world every afternoon - but the essentials are covered: the clothes shut critics up. It is salutary to discover new designers that are absolutely not formatted by trends, nor slaves of a niche they occupy without sincerity, simply out of convenience. We'd readily kiss Marine Miel good luck, but something tells us a bow would be more appropriate.

Buenos Aires is colonizing the Bon Marché Rive Gauche. The department store devotes a lot of space and time to an exhibition centered on that most European of Latin American cities. The whole store is donning the colors of Argentina. Windows signed by Gotan Project, food tastings, cinematographic wanderings around Buenos Aires, tango lessons and installations are all part of the program.

Here is a rare occasion of discovering a wide variety of goods, such as PIC NIC's printed mini-cushions, La Feliz' woven lamps, the slightly old-fashioned lingerie by Jesus Fernandez, Compaña De Los Sombreros' hats, or the drop-dead-gorgeous polo boots by La Casa de Las Botas. A glimpse into the dynamic artistic and fashion scene exploding in today's Buenos Aires, where young designers haven't turned their back on traditional techniques or aesthetics.

Nigh on three years: that's how long Maison Fabre had to wait before they found the perfect spot to set up their first Parisian store. But then Olivier Fabre, the fourth generation of Fabre glovers, had only one place in mind: the Palais Royal - and on the Galerie de Valois side, because it faces the sun.

Architect Guy Falco, who redesigned the workshops of the Millau headquarters in 2005, imagined a cozy  interior decoration for this space, animated by the gloves standing to attention in their backlit niches. In the windows, gloved hands, as if in conversation, catch the eye. They're like a clique of socialites at a masked ball, pointing out the passersby with insolence, parading in their glistening dresses. Once inside, the dissipation fades away as calm and subdued elegance take precedence. A long research on color was necessary to reach the perfect scheme (taupe, bronzed coffee, white and steel), one that matches the moods of the Gardens outside, their grace when the sun shines and spleen under the snow or clouds.

The perfectly organized 20 m² of Maison Fabre's first shop in Paris offer up the entirety of the brand's collections, for men, women, and kids. And if you can't find the right item among the dozens of references, it's now possible to have an individual pair made to measure.

There's no denying it: Marika Chaumet works well. After handling the renovation of the flagship Repetto store on the rue de la Paix, the interior decorator managed once again to reconcile the tutu spirit with our obsession for accessories inside the new rue du Four shop.

As in the days of childhood, the pointe and demi-pointe shoes await, neatly arranged inside their wooden compartments. The timber floor, barre and large mirror panels set the atmosphere of a dance studio, a special climate made even more palpable by the leotards, cache-coeur and assorted dancewear. The ballet flats, tango or cancan shoes stand to attention, strictly sorted by range and by color.

It's the discipline of an afternoon dance lesson all over, and we'd almost fear lest a severe saleswoman come armed with a stick to rectify our posture. So stand straight, contract your abs, keep your head up and shop gracefully please!

Jérôme Dreyfuss - Saint-Germain-des-Prés - Paris
 

Billy, Momo, Diego, Tom... They're so seductive, and we just love the touch of their skin, although we had to pay to have them around.

Jérôme Dreyfuss creates bags which he christens with boys' names because they are, in his words, "faithful companions."

For quite a while his collections only made their appearance on corners at the department stores. As the seasons came and went, the look of the skins varied, the cuts were renewed, the style matured. And so there was a time when Jérôme was ready to open a store in his name - nowhere else but at the 1, rue Jacob, right in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

The avowed inspiration for the décor, a 50's gymnasium, is rather discreet; though we'd spend a lot more time in gymnasiums if they all looked like this one, with its large angle window opening up on a nice little square and the rue de l'Echaudé, its soft materials and, above all, a very motivating collection of accessories.

Then there's Jean-Charles, the master on board and a rare coach. Friendly, obliging, always well-informed, he has a way of looking after visitors with consideration and no affectation. A rare feat in Paris.

As if we weren't already on the verge of yielding, each bag by Jérôme Dreyfuss is an example of responsible craftsmanship: an animal-friendly process of skin selection, clean techniques and materials for tanning the hides, respect for the workers... Buying an accessory here is almost a kind gesture!

Not that such encouragement is necessary. The bags talk for themselves. They all detain this particular quality of the most handsome leather items: you can't stop touching them, you have to possess them, here and now.

Jose, Bernard, Yves... It will be difficult to leave Jérôme Dreyfuss' new store without one of these lovely companions.
