Goldilock's difficulties in securing a chair of the appropriate size are a well-documented fact. It is, however, little known that the one she eventually elected as the cosiest was this strange, ornately perforated piece of furniture, which can be dismantled and reassembled at will. The little bear she stole it from thought it didn't look bare enough anyway.

The birds... A great throng of birds has come. They swarm now, so numerous that their presence is starting to become disquieting. Their wings flap and bang dryly against the panes of the little house. From the chimney, noises filter down; agitated cheepings, and the clacking of beaks against stone, against flesh. A few feathers flit about in the darkened air, while right beneath the windows, a duck, its feathers iridescent with rain, hobbles along towards his pond.

Our friend Anne-Claire Petit baked the perfect cake for a fairytale reunion; an all-in-one pastry, complete with crochet candles and an integrated music box. Hänsel thought it tasted of wool slightly, but let's be honest here - he is a bit of a killjoy sometimes.

Anyway, the dessert plates looked so pretty and we were so well seated... Little Red Riding Hood declared it was even better than at her grand-mother's, and besides, the wolves are nice in this part of the woods.

The band saw machine; a tool unduly neglected.

Its customary use is not for sawing bands - after all, most rock bands are able to take care of the splitting themselves, and what about fabric bands? Honestly, scissors are enough there, a saw is overkill.

And so, Jens Fager would rather use his band saw machine to make unique objects out of wood, such as the beautiful side tables that fill out the line-up of the RAW collection, launched in September 2008 along the principle of "rough and intuitive interpretations of iconic everyday objects."

As to Jakob Wagner, he's more into "straightforward stories" and fine bone china. No band saw machine, just the hand of man to polish each of the jugs in this series, whose organic unity complements well the new RAW side table. They are "like a heart and its veins or a tree and its branches." With this china creation straight out of the fire, Muuto is RAW but well baked.

Buenos Aires is colonizing the Bon Marché Rive Gauche. The department store devotes a lot of space and time to an exhibition centered on that most European of Latin American cities. The whole store is donning the colors of Argentina. Windows signed by Gotan Project, food tastings, cinematographic wanderings around Buenos Aires, tango lessons and installations are all part of the program.

Here is a rare occasion of discovering a wide variety of goods, such as PIC NIC's printed mini-cushions, La Feliz' woven lamps, the slightly old-fashioned lingerie by Jesus Fernandez, Compaña De Los Sombreros' hats, or the drop-dead-gorgeous polo boots by La Casa de Las Botas. Kitchen Bazaar - Haut Marais
 

Forty-odd years after it was born, Kitchen Bazaar is going through a second youth: a new store, more than 80 m² large, is opening in the heart of the Marais, right before the online store is re-launched with a brand new layout.

Inside, bright-colored silicon utensils occupy entire walls, next to stainless steel instruments, high-end cooking material, objects by Bodum or Zak! designs. Luxury trash cans adorn the dark grey floor.

This Kitchen Bazaar wears its name well: one finds anything there, be it silicon ice cream spoons, cutting boards made of bamboo, miniature expresso machines, flashy lunch boxes or isothermal bags that look like they just tumbled down from a cosmonaut's pocket.

The Evergreen cooking utensils by Aubecq aren't only colored green. Their aluminum structure is covered in a new, non-stick ceramic coating, which contains no toxic material, no heavy metals, and no PTFE. Even the fabrication process was devised so as to decrease CO2 emissions.

The distributor works exclusively with Varenna, a subsidiary from famous Italian editor Poliform, and exhibits two collections: Matrix and Minimal. Geometric and sophisticated, both lines have lot in common. Introduced at the showroom in a glossy white version, Matrix sticks to the high-tech. Minimal, just as graphic, is a better match for natural materials such as wood or stone. On the basement floor, a materials library opens up a vast choice: wenge, ebony, ovangkol, oak, and many more eco-friendly essences.

After a long afternoon out, we'll celebrate our Home Sweet Home by lighting a candle from Baobab Collection, a brand imagined by Belgian designer Valérie Bietlot somewhere between South Africa and Tanzania. The largest candle, made by hand like all the others in Wavre, Wallonia, stands 40 cm-tall (that's 1.3 feet!), burns through seven wicks and lasts 800 hours. Bradbury & Bradbury print gorgeous wallpapers tinged with sweet nostalgia. Their patterns are taken from the Victorian era, the Arts & Crafts movement, or modern art. This one was imagined in the 30's by architect Raymond McGrath, presumably for the house of an aviator lady who'd christened the place "Rudderbar"...
