Série Blanche, the 5 Saveur Candles from Michèle Gay's Pentaptik collection
Saveur Sel (salt), Saveur Sucre (sugar), Saveur Farine (flour), Saveur Graine (seed), Saveur Lait (milk)
To be used separately or as a combination
Limited edition collection, 120 g., 38€
If Maïssa Toulet is our witch, then Michèle Gay is our fairy godmother. A pioneer of gourmet fragrances, she's enriched her line of magical scented creations with a pentaptych of candles freshly cast out of the athanor. Each one of them is spell-binding, and infinitely more complex than the raw name and pure white outline suggest. But the charm works even stronger when the fragrances are associated. Every combination is allowed and encouraged, they all were painstakingly elaborated inside Michèle Gay's alchemy laboratory. Five candles set as a pentacle inside a Silvera kitchen will increase tenfold the power of philters and poisons.

Buenos Aires is colonizing the Bon Marché Rive Gauche. The department store devotes a lot of space and time to an exhibition centered on that most European of Latin American cities. The whole store is donning the colors of Argentina. Windows signed by Gotan Project, food tastings, cinematographic wanderings around Buenos Aires, tango lessons and installations are all part of the program.
Here is a rare occasion of discovering a wide variety of goods, such as PIC NIC's printed mini-cushions, La Feliz' woven lamps, the slightly old-fashioned lingerie by Jesus Fernandez, Compaña De Los Sombreros' hats, or the drop-dead-gorgeous polo boots by La Casa de Las Botas. A glimpse into the dynamic artistic and fashion scene exploding in today's Buenos Aires, where young designers haven't turned their back on traditional techniques or aesthetics.

Limited edition of 6 cocktail cases created by Isabelle Ballu and Moritz Rogosky for Bombay Sapphire's Premium Gin.
Natural patined leather case, adorned with a patch bearing the effigy of Queen Victoria, BOMB-AY shaker, enamelled, hammered and buttoned, two cocktail glasses
1.000€, exclusively at L'Éclaireur in Paris and Tokyo
Hercule Poirot, great traveller and even greater a snob, probably would have pursed his lips if proposed a glass of gin - but without a doubt his reticence would have been overcome by this portable drink-mixing kit by Bombay Sapphire. Three versions of it are proposed, as international as the spices which lend their flavor to the blue decoction: one is for Paris, the other two for New York and Tokyo. And only two specimens of each of these elegant creations are released. Cheers, Hercule! (but with moderation)

Champagne Krug Clos d'Ambonnay 1995
3.000 to 4.000 bottles available, price on demand
Drink in moderation
The Clos d'Ambonnay is a tiny, exclusive vineyard, less than a hectare in size and girded by stone walls. It yields a Pinot noir of capital importance in the fine cépage mixes that have built the glory of the house of Krug. More than twenty years after Clos du Mesnil, Krug once again forsook for a moment the quest for the perfect assemblage to focus their efforts on a small piece of land and transform its grape into an exceptional fruit, destined to become a grand cru. The flavors of brioche, caramelized spices, wax and red fruit, precede a final note of rare persistence. Clos d'Ambonnay is the sixth jewel in the precious Krug line - the most delicious and secret in their crown.

Breakfast, Lunch, Tea, The Many Little Meals of Rose Bakery, Phaidon, 192 pp., 100 color illustrations, $29,95
Rose Bakery, 46, rue des Martyrs Paris 9°, +33 1 42 82 12 80
Rose and Jean-Claude Carrarini used to work in fashion. They'd travel all over the world. The birds escorted them everywhere. Until they noticed that, just like the birds, what was on their plate for lunch interested them far more than the cuts and fabrics they had discussed all morning. Thus they launched an organic gourmet shop in London, a pionneering venture as early as 1988. And then flew off again before settling down, under the advice of the birds, in the Parisian rue des Martyrs, where they opened the very delicious store known as Rose Bakery in 2002. Rose let Phaidon in on one hundred of her best recipes, for extraordinary little meals from dawn till dusk - and after that still.
Bottle of absinth 35 €, liquor-filled chocolate 3 €, extra dark chocolate bar 3 €, Leone
Lafayette Gourmet 97, rue de Provence Paris 9° +33 1 48 74 15 35
For an exquisite decadent tea, as the sun sets and the shadows deepen. Leone celebrates its 150th birthday, and that of Baudelaire's Fleurs du Mal, with a special coffret, only available in Italy. It includes an edition of the infamous collection, with traditional handmade binding. But the package's real attraction is a bottle of absinth, distilled the Belle Époque way. It comes with the appropriate perforated spoon to perfect the effect. The brand hasn't changed its recipe in any way since production started in 1874. The liquor is still strong, very strong... at 72°.
Now where on Earth did I put that damned laudanum?

Fauchon, 24/26, place de la Madeleine Paris 8°, +33 1 70 39 38 00
This funny pastry looks like it came straight out of a cartoon. A witch, armed with her magic wand, enchanted a commonplace chocolate éclair. By a happy chance Fauchon was passing by, and managed to reverse the spell and turn it into one of the best desserts in Paris. Snow White approves.

Giraudet is adding this strange, soft-green thing to its vast catalog: a spinach quenelle - rather a "quasi"-quenelle, or you'd hurt the purist. Hand-made using only natural ingredients, it will taste delicious fried, on a fresh salad bed...
